Economical PRI-27 provides a cost-effective solution in overcoming three primary issues associated with today’s heavy fuel oil usage in modern marine diesel engines – carbon, soot and sludge. • Carbon Killer: PRI-27 elevates the ignition quality of all heavy fuel oils – stopping the development of power robbing and potentially damaging carbon deposits on critical engine components.
• Soot Buster: PRI-27 prevents excessive soot fouling of exhaust gas economizers, providing greater efficiencies.
More and more ship owners turn to Becker Marine Systems for rudder conversions of vessels already in service.
The easy installation of a new Becker Rudder System can dramatically improve manoeuvring performance and reduce fuel consumption.
Becker Marine Systems’ After Sales Team has long been known for quality and flexibility when it comes to refurbishing Becker Rudders that have been in service for decades.
In case of a general overhaul of a Becker Rudder, the Becker specialists turn old rudders into “good-as-new” by exchanging all tear and wear parts and applying a complete makeover to all rudder parts.
Ecospeed vinylester glassflake coatings are said to have successfully ended a rudder cavitation damage problem on a class of five ro-ro vessels operated in Finland and managed by Hamburg-based Ernst Russ.
The 1999-built ships had been recorded as suffering particularly from cavitation damage, thought to be because of their relatively high propeller rotational speed.

Revealed in January 2011 and weighing 1.970 kg, the TCA44 recently underwent an extensive test programme on MAN Diesel & Turbo’s turbocharger test bed in Augsburg. The TCA44 completes MAN’s TCA turbocharger range for two-stroke engines at its lower end. Stefan Mayr, Project Engineer responsible for the TCA44, said: “This new turbocharger has been specifically designed to meet the needs of small-bore, two-stroke engines and provides optimised turbocharging solutions for engines that exceed the capacity limits of the smaller TCR22 turbocharger.”
Cathelco have developed a new box cooler anti-fouling system using an anode which is mounted horizontally beneath the cooling tubes. This creates a more even distribution of ions and greater effectiveness in eliminating bio-fouling.
Over the last couple of months several owners of fixed route passenger vessels have chosen Ecospeed as the preferred coating to protect their vessel’s underwater hull for its entire sailing life. Among the vessels coated with Ecospeed are the largest Ro-Pax ferry in the world, a newbuild ferry in Croatia, and one of the vessels that provides ferry services across the Delaware Bay on the East Coast of the United States. These vessels will all benefit greatly from the fuel optimizing possibilities Ecospeed offers, as well as the coating’s lasting protection against damage from cavitation and ice.
The Emergency Seal from Cargo Care Solutions is a rubber sealing which can be pressed in the cross joint to give extra security for the weather tightness of hatch covers. The emergency rubber sealing which can be used repeatedly is causing quite a stir at maritime trade shows and proving popular with customers. It’s a time and money saving solution which provides extra security when needed for bulk and general cargoes.
BNWAS, or Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System, is a safety system made mandatory in amendments to SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19 and adopted on 5th June 2009 by Resolution MSC.282(86). The impact of air pollution from your ships is now under constant scrutiny from the world’s media. The marine industry has to act now in order to catch up with what other industries have been doing for years.
At the same time, the new MARPOL legislation restricts you from operating your engines in the most efficient way possible, so you burn more fuel. You have more emission reduction regulations coming soon from the IMO, the introduction of new worldwide ECAs (emission control areas) and geographic zones where you will be taxed on your emissions.
Pushboat propeller shaft installation exceeds 216,000 running hours. When the 1981-built Rhine river pushboat Veerhaven V was drydocked in the Netherlands earlier this year, the vessel was found to have logged an astonishing total of more than 204,000 running hours on two of its three closed water lubricated sterntube systems, without ever changing its propeller shaft bearings, shafts or shaft sleeves.
