Nord Hercules’ kicks off new Mitsui bulker series PDF Print E-mail

nordherculesMitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding (MES) recently completed the 110,000DWT bulk carrier ‘Nord Hercules’ (yard number 1,817) which had been under construction at its Chiba Works, and delivered her to her owner, Clio Marine of Liberia on January 21, 2011.

The vessel is the first ship of the new MES “over-Panamax” (post-Panamax) bulk carrier series. This ship has specifically been designed for greater efficiency in the maritime transport of iron ore, coal and grain in view of the future expansion of the Panama Canal.

Angelicoussis switches more VLCCs to LNGCs PDF Print E-mail

This latest deal brings the number of new LNGCs on order to three. They will be managed and operated by subsidiary Maran Gas.

Japanese Shipbuilding strong recovery in fiscal 2010 PDF Print E-mail

flag_japanJapanese export ship orders made a strong recovery in fiscal 2010, which ended on March 31, after sinking at their fastest pace in 17 years in the previous fiscal year.

According to figures released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association, orders swelled 95.9 percent in fiscal 2010 to 12,421,600 gross tons, compared with 6,340,591 gross tons in fiscal 2009.

Wartsila, Convert Tanker to LNG Ops PDF Print E-mail
wartsilaWartsila has signed a turnkey contract with Tarbit Shipping of Sweden to convert a product tanker to LNG propulsion, and to supply the ship with a Wartsila LNGPac system for the safe and convenient storage of LNG onboard. This is the first order for a Wartsila LNGPac system.

The 25,000 dwt product tanker 'Bit Viking' is operated by Statoil along the Norwegian coastline, and the conversion will enable the vessel to qualify for lower NOX emission taxes under the Norwegian government's NOX fund scheme.

A proposed merger between Abu Dhabi Mar and ThyssenKrupp Marine System has been cleared by the \Commission under the EU Merger Regulations. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the areas of civil and naval shipbuilding and repair in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.

Tsakos Replaces The Marathon and Parthenon with Newbuilds PDF Print E-mail

tsakosTsakos Energy Navigation Limited (TEN) (NYSE:TNP) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with a state oil company for the sale of the 2003-built aframax tankers Marathon and Parthenon for a combined price of $78m.
One vessel will be delivered to its new owner at the end of February and the other at the end of April, at the expiration of their voyage charters.

Stena Bulk orders new Suezmax tankers from Samsung PDF Print E-mail

stena-shipsStena Bulk has confirmed an order for two in-house designed Suezmax tankers from Samsung, South Korea for delivery in 2011.

The 158,700 dwt vessels, with a length of 274 metres and a beam of 48 metres, will be when delivered the largest tankers in Stena Bulk’s fleet. Also included are two optional sister vessels, declarable spring 2010.
